Seven-year-old boy dies in accident at Beamish attraction

A seven-year-old boy has died following an accident at the Beamish open-air museum in County Durham.

The boy was fatally injured in an incident involving a steam-powered traction engine yesterday (22 July). According to police, the boy was not a visitor to the museum but a volunteer, taking part in an event with his father.

The museum was closed following the incident. A short statement on the Beamish website stated that an investigation was continuing into the "tragic accident" but that it would open to visitors normally today (23 July).
