ALVA's members are the UK's most popular, iconic and important museums, galleries, palaces, castles, cathedrals, zoos, historic houses, heritage sites, gardens and leisure attractions.
They comprise over 2200 tourist sites, hosting over 119 million domestic and overseas visitors each year - around 28% of the visits made annually in the UK.
We represent our members to Government, media and business and lobby for support for the sector. We provide training, benchmarking and advocacy initiatives to assist our members continually improve the visitor experience.

VISITOR NUMBERS TO THE UK’S MOST POPULAR ATTRACTIONS INCREASE BY 19% ACCORDING TO ALVA’S 2023 VISITOR FIGURES - The British Museum returns to being the most visited attraction
The Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA) has released the visitor figures of its members for 2023 today (Monday, March 18, 2024) during English Tourism Week and Scottish Tourism Month. The total number of visits to ALVA sites in 2023 was 146.6million, which was a 19% increase on the previous year (123.6 million) but still represented a decline of 11% on the 163.9 million visits in 2019 to the top 374 ALVA sites. ALVA warmly welcome Government continuing Theatre, Museums and Orchestra tax relief
ALVA was delighted with the news in the Budget that the Government has listened to lobbying and has agreed to permanently continue tax relief for theatres, museums (exhibitions) and orchestras at the existing level.
